Digipak Annotation

Above shown is an example of a DigiPak, by Britney Spears which shows her promoting her album 'Femme Fatale'. I used this to inspire the original idea for my DigiPak, as i can then adapt the ideas i have for my own DigiPak and build on this using examples of DigiPak's like the one above. The front cover of the album has an image of Britney Spears as she strikes a pose, which would appeal to her male audience as it has sexual connotations. These connotations could also reflect the type of songs which would be on the album. The name of the album is the boldest text on the page, making it stand out amongst anything else on the front cover. The name of the artist (Britney Spears) comes directly underneath the album name, so that's what the audience immediately see's next, which they can familiarize themselves with. The back cover of the DigiPak includes the track list of the album, which would include tracks that the audience would already be familiar with as these tracks would have been released before the album.

The barcode is located in the bottom right hand corner, but doesn't blend in as it's white and has been placed on top of another image of Britney. This is something that i would want to consider changing when creating my DigiPak. In the main body to the DigiPak, there includes Britney Spears' signature logo which would appeal to her audience as they would want to know that the CD they were purchasing was legit. There is also an exclusive picture/poster of the artist in the centre of the DigiPak which is the main attraction (along with the CD).

DigiPak Research

 What are Digipaks?
Digipacks are a type of CD packaging made out of either card or cardboard material. Digipacks can flip open like a book, or it can have three parts, so that one part of the packaging opens to the right and the other to the left, with the main part being the CD in the center. Usually, the part of the digipack that holds the CD is made out of plastic like a traditional jewel case CD - the plastic part is simply attached to the paper background.

Advantages of digipacks.
By having more pannels you are able to add more design and album art within these pannels. This means it is more attractive to the audience and can share relavance with the album itself for example, the title itself. The digipacks are made out of plastic, and are fully recycled allowing the making of these products environmentaly friendly.

Disadvantages of digipacks.
Digipacks are more expensive to produce. Digipacks tend to break or get worm very easily as they are mostly made out of paper type material.Cds can fall out and get damaged also because of the weak material it is made out of. Compared to other casings such as jewel cd cases digipacks are weaker.

Key and constant features of digipacks.
The price of digipacks are fairly priced mainly depending on how many pannels the digipacks are made up of and the cd within it. The space in digipacks are not limited to just 4 pannels they can go up to 8 pannels.Digipacks do not just hold the cd but can hold additional features such as a booklet containing album information, track listings and lyrics.

Editing Process..

For the opening of our music video, i decided to use a panning shot and a fade transition of the couple as this fit in nicely with the love montage in the introduction to our song, but also as an establishing shot to introduce the audience to the surroundings. The fade transition helped to soften the cut into the next clip as without the fade, it looked too abrupt and sharp.

During the middle of our music video, i incorporated play words such as 'leaving' and 'breaking every day' as this reinforced the concept of the music video, but was also a visual change from the rest of our music video for our target audience.

During the narrative based performance of our music video, i added in black and white effects to reflect that the singer was reminiscent of the arguments she had with her partner. My group and i wanted it to look like the argument clips were a faint memory, which the black and white captured. This looked really effective once we played it back as everything else was in normal color, as oppose to having the whole video in color or the whole video in black and white.

Towards the ending of our music video, my group and i decided to have a scene where i would have to thoroughly engage with the camera to try and create empathy with our audience. In this scene, we have a mid shot of me taking of the engagement ring and throwing it on the floor. The camera zooms into the ring, and it sparkles, which we added in to symbolize it's significance.

Limited Footage

After uploading and going through the footage we wanted to keep, and deleting the footage that we didn't need on final cut express, we finally began editing and putting together the effective shots over the ones that didn't fit the criteria of our video, or that weren't as effective as we wanted. This took a few lessons as we kept changing clips around, and cutting clips to fit in time to the track we had chosen. It was frustrating if we had visualized what we wanted that clip to look like visually once edited, but if we didn't like the look of something (which we usually noticed and agreed on) we would change it and experiment with other tools and effects until we all agreed on something that our audience would agree with visually too.

Once our basic video had been lined up, we were ready to add in visual effects to complete the video, but we realized that there wasn't enough footage to last the song, without having to repeat footage we had already previously used. This was highly inconvenient to us as we thought all footage had been filmed and to get hold of our actors again would be difficult as they both led hectic schedules.
We decided to book out a camera there and then and get more filming done as we didn't want our music video to look repetitive or boring in any way. We reviewed our footage and found that there was too many narrative scenes, and not enough performance based shots, which made it look more like a short film than a music video. We found some spare time between us which wasn't hard to decide as we were a group therefore made it easier to co-operate within each other's schedules and filmed more performance based shots.

Lip Syncing

After uploading our track onto final cut express, my group and i had to familiarize ourselves with a lip syncing tutorial. This involved making sure that the timing for my role as the performance based  actress was perfected. We had to film me in various scenes miming to the whole song to make sure that when it came to uploading the footage, it looked like i was singing the track. i found that singing along to the track helped me to match the track in perfect time . The results we got, using the lip syncing tutorial made the audio for our music video and the movement much smoother.
